Ask An Alchemist: How Often Should I Wash My Hair?

ASK AN ALCHEMIST

Hair washing, seems so simple but done wrong, can prove to be problematic for healthy hair. We often get asked how to wash hair properly, so we have outlined how to do so to help.

Step 1:

Start with a rinse. Your hair should be throughly wet before adding shampoo. Hot water opens the cuticle, which is good for removing dirt. Using warm water helps loosens the oils in your scalp.

Step 2:

If your hair is long, use conditioner first. This helps protect fragile ends from drying out. Use your conditioning from the mid length of your hair to the bottom and rinse through.

Step 3:

Lather up your shampoo at the scalp. Try to use as little shampoo as possible. Start at your roots and gently wash from your scalp to your ends. Only do this once.

Step 4:

Add your conditioner from the middle section and wash to the tips. As your scalp is where hair oil tends to be most concentrated.

Step 5: Rinse with cold water.
