Ask An Alchemist: Oily Hair

ASK AN ALCHEMIST

Having too much oil in the hair can be stressful and hard to manage. Hair oil is responsible for keeping hair shiny and isnaturally secreted.  It is found in our oil glads tat are connected to the roots of our hair. It is responsible for the health of our scalp.

Here are some tips for those of you who suffer with oily hair:

Wash your hair no more than 2-3 times a week. Overwashing can cause your hair to become greasy.

Try not to touch your hair. Easier said than done, we know. But, if we constantly run our fingers through our hair, it adds to the greasiness.

Wash your hair with warm water, not hot. Hot water is another contributing factor to having oily hair.

Condition the ends of your hair, not the roots. If we apply condition all over our hair, it can weigh it down, causing it to feel oily.

Dry your hair with a low heat hair dryer. Again, heat is a cause of oily hair. With this in mind, try to minimise your usage of straighteners.

Use good quality hair products. This is important as some chemicals in products can cause damage to our scalp, creating greasy hair.
