Cruelty Free Hair Dyes – Natural Colours

Finding the right hair dye can be difficult. Most dyes contain harmful ingredients like resorcinol or 4-ABP (synthetic chemicals that are both thought to be toxic), ingredients that are tested on animals, or animal products like silk, keratin or milk proteins.

We think you shouldn’t have to choose between your hair colour and your ethics, so have put together a list of some of our favourite dye brands.

Natural-Looking Colours

Herbatint  Herbatint’’s plant-based dyes have been around since the 1970s. Their products are cruelty-free, certified vegan, and free from ammonia, parabens and alcohol. Their low hydrogen peroxide concentration means that the dyes enhance natural colour, while minimising damage to your hair and to sensitive skin. The range has 36 natural-looking permanent colours that provide good coverage, and leave hair soft and shiny. [Price: £9.50 online.]

Tints of Nature  Tints of Nature colours are cruelty-free (Leaping Bunny certified), vegan, and use over 75% certified organic ingredients. Naturigin  Danish brand, Naturigin is vegan, cruelty-free and certified organic by ECOCERT. They campaign in partnership with the Humane Society to end animal testing, and use recyclable materials in their packaging. On top of that, their products are free from ammonia, resorcinol and parabens, since the brand believes you should be able to dye your hair without risking your health. The permanent dyes come in 19 different colours, gives good colour coverage, and has a natural, floral scent (unlike the chemical smell of most hair dyes). [Price: £7.99 from Lloyds Pharmacies.]
