February is known heart month and is a time for celebrating not only love but all the needs and influences of your heart. Its the perfect time to make some little #selflove and #ayurvedic influenced changes that can really improve your heart health…

Soothe your stresses

Ayurveda takes a holistic approach to heart heath and encourages you to nourish both your emotional and physical heart. The heart is a ‘fountain’ of your emotions, positive and negative. Mental and emotional stress can throw off your heart’s balance. Practicing meditation has been proven to improve heart health by lowering blood pressure, and increasing your resistance to different types of stress. Why not also try this relaxing head massage technique to release tension.

Catch up on your Zzzs

A lack of sleep has been linked to issues with blood pressure, depression and other heart problems. Sleep is as important to your health as your diet. A good bedtime routine can improve the quality of your sleep. Make sure to remove any distractions from your bedroom. Certain scents can help to wind down try using aromatherapy, candles, or make the most of the aromas from your hair oil mask (we recommend Amla for it’s soothing citrus tones, save Peppermint for the mornings as the menthol will energise and keep your mind more active). These aromas are inhaled into your body and enter the bloodstream where they circulate via the heart, activating different areas in the brain and influencing emotions.

Balance

In ayurvedic practices the heart is the base of prana (life energy) and is maintained with a balance of agni and soma (solar and lunar energies). Stress and negative emotion can put your heart out of balance, so it is essential to nourish your physical and emotional heart.
