An overnight mask with your Alchemy Hair Oils will deeply nourish the hair and scalp, as well as help, relax you. Customer feedback often comments on how the smell helps them sleep, which got us thinking about the importance of sleep for overall health and happiness.

Practising a Bed Time Ritual has been one of my favourite things. It makes getting into bed a real treat. I’ve found myself falling asleep in a great mood, sleeping better, and leaping out of bed with a spring in my step. I think I may be a morning person now!

It is no secret that getting enough sleep has vast beauty benefits. However, it also has a wonderful impact on your mind and energy too. The key to improving both the quality of quantity of your sleep is to develop bedtime habits.

If you carry out the same set of behaviours, your body learns to associate these actions with triggering sleep hormones. We have put together a list of things you can do to create your own routine so you can develop healthy habits!

  • Take a technology detox. At least an hour before bed turn off your phone, laptop and any other screens you have, try taking them out of your room completely so they don’t distract you. The blue light emitted by screens on cell phones, computers, tablets, and televisions restrain the production of melatonin, the hormone that controls your sleep/wake cycle or circadian rhythm. Reducing melatonin makes it harder to fall and stay asleep.
  • Make a lovely cup of sleepy tea (we love Clipper’s organic snore & peace tea or Whittards Dreamtime tea. These herbal infusions contain ingredients such as lavender, chamomile and valerian which help you sleep and often are the same as those used in herbal sleep supplements.  The warming drink is also comforting and will help to wash away the stresses of the day.
  • Go old school and read a book. According to a study conducted in 2009 by researchers at the University of Sussex, opening a book before you go to bed can help reduce insomnia. The study showed that just six minutes of reading reduces stress by 68%, clearing the mind and preparing the body for sleep.
  • It might sound obvious, but brushing your teeth can help you sleep better. Not only is it important for the health of your mouth and general hygiene but the repeated ritual of this bedtime routine lets your body know its time for sleep and will help your mind and body prepare for rest. Top tip if you want an extra feelgood factor for your teeth brushing why not swap to an eco-friendly toothbrush such as these from Bam & Boo!
  • This one is a no-brainer… Go to bed! Make sure you actually go to bed. It’s easy to get distracted with little tasks and procrastination and before you know it is ticking on to midnight! Try setting a deadline and make sure you are actually in bed by that time, stop any distracting tasks and get that beauty sleep you deserve!
