We’re having an Emoji moment!

Emojis, our modern-day hieroglyphics, have changed the way we communicate. A fun and expressive aspect of technology, they are used by more than 90% of the online world to illustrate and streamline our written conversations.

In a time where technology – especially that which improves communication – is more important and more used than ever, why not celebrate it?

World Emoji Day is celebrated on July the 17th, the date displayed on the emoji calendar. This is not just a random date decided by Apple, but actually, the date on which iCal was first announced for Mac, back in 2002. On the17th, the whole world will celebrate Emoji Day using #WorldEmojiDay on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter.

This World Emoji Day, Apple are releasing 157 new emojis, bringing our pictogram dictionary to a total of 2,823, altogether. Amongst the list of amazing new emojis we’re getting (including superheroes for both genders, and a load of new animals), is a range of hair colours and styles for all different skin tones, truly celebrate variety in an ever-developing world.

There will finally be emojis to represent hair of all types, including ginger, bald, and Afro hair, and we’re so excited!
