The Ayurvedic practice of holistic health believes in maintaining a physically, mentally and emotionally balanced state. Ayurveda believes that all individuals are different and there is no single lifestyle that suits everyone.

To help explore what will be beneficial for each person, the three doshas are applied. These are energies that make up each individual and perform different functions within the body:

1) Vata Dosha – dictates movement in the body, the activities of the nervous system, and the process of elimination. If this dosha prevails, movement and change are characteristic of your nature.

People with primarily Vata Dosha tend to be lively, chatty and always on the move. On the flip side they can also experience insomnia, anxiety and difficulty concentrating.

2) Pitta Dosha – controls digestion, metabolism, and energy production. The principal function of Pitta is transformation. Those with a prevalence of Pitta have a fiery nature that exhibits in both body and mind.

Pitta dominated people tend to be goal oriented, intense, intelligent and benefit from luscious locks! They are strong leaders however they can experience some compultive, obsessive behaviour traits.

3) Kapha Dosha – governs the structure of the body. It holds the cells together and forms the muscle, fat, bone, and sinew. The primary purpose of Kapha is protection.

Kapha dosha people are very grounded, they are physically strong and emotionally stable and patient. Too much Kapha can result in weight gain, fatigue and a tendency to hold a grudge.

Each dosha type also contains variation in hair types, which can be rebalanced by using one of our Alchemy Oils hair remedies. Oils are helpful to soothe imbalances and can be used to treat hair loss. The Ayurvedic practice can create a holistic way of thinking about hair care.
